A high carbon Olympics?

| RFG has today (Friday 22 May 2009) called on the Olympic Delivery Authority to change its materials delivery policy to the Stratford Olympic construction site to achieve a much higher proportion of deliveries by rail and thereby reduce the number of road deliveries by half. This would save 800,000 truck movements in the area around the Stratford site as well as further afield. |

Rail Freight Group (RFG) has welcomed the publication of the Department of Transport’s 'Delivering a Sustainable Transport System: The Logistics Perspective'. “We support DfT’s new approach to freight and logistics, focusing on the way that improved freight and logistics activities can contribute to the Government’s broader economic, societal and sustainability goals,” says Alan Bennett, Director General, RFG.

Government prices freight off high speed 1 line

In spite of making many commitments to parliament that the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (also know as High Speed One, HS1) would be designed to carry freight, the Government’s recent consultation on the charges – which are six times higher than on Network Rail’s lines – and access arrangements, clearly demonstrate that Government is reneging on these commitments. |
