Commission launches infraction proceedings agains most member states
For failure to implement the First Railway Package, directives 91/440 and 2001/14.

Open letter to DB
DB has yet again given a distorted picture of the UK railways performance in its presentation of its 2008 Competition Report in early June 2008. Attached is RFG’s open letter to DB pointing this out, and suggesting that it is time to stop criticising the UK rail structure – otherwise people might start wondering why the company bought EWS Railway and Chiltern Railway.

European University Florence, School of Regulation
At a conference in Florence on 18 April to discuss the need for regulation in the rail sector, and to consider best practice, Tony Berkeley spoke on bahalf of RFG and ERFA on the need for iindepndent regulation to enable competition above rail in the freight sector to happen.

Belgium closes out new rail freight operators - 4 May 2007
The Belgium Government's Royal Decree effectively requiring all drivers employed by independent train operators to be trained and approved by their competitor, SNCB, could mean that other operators will have to close their operations in Begium.
