Job Advertisement – RFG Scottish and Northern Representative

Rail Freight Group (RFG) is the representative body for rail freight in the UK. Working on behalf of more than 100 member companies, we campaign to increase the amount of goods moved by rail by influencing the policies of key stakeholders and Governments to support growth.

RFG is looking to recruit a representative to help support this work in Scotland and the North of England.  Reporting to the Director General, you will represent RFG’s interests, maintain relationships with our members and stakeholders and be the ‘eyes and ears’ on the ground, raising policy issues and campaign priorities for RFG to take forward with your input.

You will be the focal point for RFG Members in Scotland and the North of England, keeping abreast of the new rail freight developments, key member challenges and maintaining strong relationships with the sector in these geographies.   You will support our relationships with the key local and regional bodies and attend important meetings and events to help shape policy and projects.  You will be a key part of the RFG team supporting our events and promotional work.

Applicants should demonstrate;

  • A good working knowledge of the rail freight sector and railway geography particularly in Scotland and the North of England. An understanding of railway projects and planning will be helpful.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to articulate complex areas to non-experts
  • Experience in stakeholder management across a broad range of organisations and people, including finding consensus within a range of different views
  • The ability to work independently and to be proactive in support of the RFG’s aims

This role is offered on as 1 day per week (7.5 hours) equivalent.  There is no requirement to commit to a fixed day, and hours can be worked flexibly to suit candidate needs and the requirements of the role. The salary range is £15,000 – £17,000 per annum and can be appointed on a permanent or contract basis.
