The RFG Spring Meeting is being held at Siemens premises in Chippenham and will cover a variety of topics focusing on the future, both in terms of technology and the political/business environment.
Pieter Ryman from Siemens will look at all that is digital being (or considered being) deployed on our UK railways from high capacity signalling solutions to augmented and virtual reality technology, and consultant Nigel Jones will look at the Digital Railway from the freight perspective.
Bill Free from the Civil Engineering Contractors Association will discuss the potential impact of the ongoing Williams Review into railways, and David Clarke, Technical Director at the Rail Industry Association, will tackle the challenges around electrification . Other speakers will look at innovations in wagon technology that help make the rail freight business more productive and efficient.
All attendees will be offered the option of an afternoon tour of the Siemens facility, including the world’s first deployed automatic train operation (ATO), being combined with the European Standard Signalling system (ETCS) on an operational urban route in London. Also, Siemens will be demonstrating the ETCS equipment that will be deployed on all of the freight locos that will be operating on ETCS routes in the UK, as well other technologies such as control centres, safety equipment and relays, and a general tour of the manufacturing factory that supports the UK and global railway industry.
On the evening prior to the meeting, Tuesday 30 April, we will be having an informal reception at The Angel Hotel, Market Place, SN15 3BW (sat nav). The evening gives delegates the opportunity to network and chat over some food and drink before the formal presentations the following day.
