RFG’s Annual Scottish Conference will be held at the Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa in North Berwick on Wednesday 6 March. The conference will run from 9am- 1pm followed by lunch and then we hope to have a tour of the Dunbar Cement Plant, which is a major – and growing – user of rail freight.

There will also be an informal dinner at the hotel the evening before (Tuesday 5 March).
The conference will look at rail freight developments in Scotland, including challenges and opportunities. We will consider how rail freight can help the Scottish Government meet its economic and environmental targets (including climate change). We will talk about delivery of the Growth Plan and how barriers such as loading gauge will be tackled.
The conference will also include an update on policy including the Williams Review and an update on the discussion at last year’s RFG Scottish event.
Confirmed speakers include Chris Swan from Tarmac, discussing the success story of rail freight growth in the construction market, John McGuigan outlining the potential for rail freight growth at Aberdeen Harbour, and Andy Saunders of Network Rail who will set out how it plans to grow freight during CP6.
The hotel is half a mile from North Berwick railway station (which is under 35 minutes by train from Edinburgh Waverley – hourly service). Dunbar station on the East Coast Main Line is a 12-mile taxi ride (01368 862612 or 01368 864640) and has through trains from Birmingham, Sheffield, Leeds, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh etc.
There is also plenty of parking.
